Regimental Headquarters arrived in May of 1966  but by then members of the regiment had seen action in numerous operations including Jack Stay as BLT 1/5 and Deckhouse I as BLT 3/5.
The Regiment served honorably in operations such as Hastings, Colorado, Allenbrook, Meade River, and the Battle for Hue City among others.
The 5th Marines began redeployed from Vietnam from January through May of 1971.
